Clearway High School was established by the Adult Learning Center in 1977 as an alternative high school program for teenagers who need a specialized setting to successfully earn a high school diploma or equivalency diploma (HiSET®).
Who We Serve
Clearway’s mission is to educate teenagers so that they learn to function effectively as adults. We do this by helping them improve their academic and work skills, their decision-making skills, and daily life skills.
What We Offer
Clearway offers an emotionally supportive educational environment that encourages students to discover success in a range of ways:
- Students choosing to earn a Clearway High School diploma can do so by accumulating 20 credits as required by the NH Department of Education and remaining enrolled full-time for at least one calendar year.
- Some students may choose to pursue a HiSET diploma. Clearway’s curriculum provides competency in academic skills, including language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, which are necessary for HiSET success.
- Small class size and hands-on technology promote academic achievement.
- A Career and Life Skills class is required of all students to help them become more proficient in the tasks that are required of adults in daily life. Students explore career opportunities, learn employability skills, develop resumes and are directly supported in their efforts to seek and sustain employment or pursue further education.
- Computer skills classes include instruction in basic operations, database applications, spreadsheet applications, PowerPoint, graphic design and web site design.
Program Highlights
Clearway’s capacity is approximately seventy students, including eighteen who receive special education services.
Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:18 AM to 2:08 PM at 40 Arlington Street in Nashua. We generally follow the Nashua Public School calendar.
Clearway is approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education for the education of both identified and non-identified students.
How to Enroll
Students must be referred by their school district and must be interviewed and accepted by Clearway’s Director. Enrollment is monthly. Students who have been identified by their home school district as having special educational needs must be referred by the Special Education Office in their school district. They should contact that office to discuss a referral.
Cost
Tuition is approved by the NH Department of Education and is paid by the sending school district.
